Race Review - 4th of July

Okay, Okay....this blog is 2 weeks late.  A lot has been going on and time keeps slipping away from me.  But better late than never, eh?

This was a local 5K - right in our own hometown.  It was weird to walk up to the starting point and then walk home afterwards.

We live in a dinky, small town so attendance was low for the race.  It was a walk/run as well as a biathalon.  Kudos to those atheletes!

Anyway, we got there with plenty of time to spare and grabbed our race packet.  Race time was 8:30a.m.  However, they were running behind and seemed to have some malfunction with the rime clock.  I grew anxious only because I had to go to work afterwards.  Therefore, running late made me nervous about finishing in time to get home to get ready.  15 minutes later and the race was ready to start.

It was hard for me.  As I mentioned, days seem to slip away and my training has suffered.  So this race was like I had never ran before - ha!  I had to push through and there were several locals who came out to cheer the runners on.  That always makes me feel like a rockstar!

I finished with a slower time than usual but that is okay with me.  At the end, they had fruit, gatorade and pretzels.  Also, they had cold, wet rags for us to wipe our faces and put on our necks.  That was a first!  It felt fantastic.

All in all, not much to blog about.  Typical small town race.  No bells or whistles.

So the review of the event 4th of July 5K:
Terrain - all open paved (meaning some traffic)
Organization - it was "okay", mostly school kids as volunteers which means some just goofed off, race started about 20 minutes late, finish line inflatable fell over, had a few technical difficulties
Cost - $25 per person, received a teeshirt, some coupons and a drawstring bag
Time of Race - 8:30am
Overall - Typical small town race
Award - Not sure, since it started late and I had to work, we didn't stick around
My Time - 30.14 (came in 5th)
Race # in our 15 in '15 Challenge - 9/15

After the race

Matt crossing the finish line

Might not be the best time but running laps around those on the couch
