While post people were either asleep or nursing a hang over, we were up before the sun heading to our first race of the year. It was cold but we have ran in colder.
We got there, got registered and then stayed in the warm van until it was close to time. We met up with our running group and huddled to stay warm. First the half marathoners were released at the sound of the cannon. A few minutes later, we were released. I took off, feeling good. Actually, I felt pretty good the entire race. It was strictly pavement. I kept on trucking along. I passed a small, tiny sign that said 5K with a curved arrow. I thought to myself - was that the turn around? I didn't want to seem stupid so I kept plugging along. After about a block, I pulled over to the side and looked back. Sure enough, other runners were turning around. It was then that I realized I had ran too far. Grrrrr. So I turned around and picked up the pace a bit, frustrated that I ran too far. However, to my defense, the sign was small and not very clear when you are running with watery eyes.
Matt and a couple others walked the 1.5 mile course. As I jogged to the finish line, I saw them and pushed harder because I thought it would be funny to pass them since they did the shorter distance. They passed over the finish a few seconds before me. haha!
We got our medal and rushed off to head to the second race 45 minutes away.....
So, the review of the event Polar Dash:
Terrain - pavement, strictly road
Organization - Organized fairly well but the signs were small and not very noticeable, parking was limited and late comers had to park a distance away and walk to the start line
Cost - $25 per person
Time of Race - 8:00am
Overall - was okay, decent participation medal, shirts were nice (we didn't get one bc we registered late)
Award - participation medal
My Time 30.10
Race # - 1
